I scribbled this out yesterday. Self explanatory. I had a very strange holiday.

I did the little doodle that turned into this cartoon when I was at my parents house for the holidays. It’s about that moment you realize something/someone you really enjoyed is not good for you. I think we can all relate.
Also, this is the first thing I have scanned on my new scanner. Just look how black those blacks are! You have no idea how happy this little piece of technology makes me.

So, I'm moving this thing to Tumblr. I made my tumblr kinda public yesterday and it's already more successful than my livejournal ever was. This is my formal announcement that hardly anyone will ever see because no one looks at livejournal anymore. Anyway, if you like my work and want to see more please follow me to my new site. Thanks to all loyal readers, you make my life that much richer.

Here's another comic. It's based on a quote from what I'm pretty certain is a David Leviathan book. I haven't read the book, it's just that someone read me the quote and I was inspired. It's dedicated to someone I miss sometimes. It's nib and brush and ink.

| Here's a buncha crap. |
[02 Nov 2009|06:40pm] |
So, I did this two page comic based on a Jason Molina song called No Moon On The Water. I prefer the solo version to the full band version that's on a Magnolia Electric Co. lp. It's from a seven inch that you could only get with a copy of Chunklett. But it's the internet age. If you're curious look it up, you could be listening to it before you're done reading this paragraph I'm sure. I started this comic a couple months back but got lost with how to complete it. Then this weekend determined to finish it I just went at it and said to hell with not knowing where to go just get something on paper and get it done. After about 6-10 hours of work it was done(when I said it was started it was like some scribbles and some of the worst inking I've ever done, so really I hadn't gotten too far) Here it is. It ain't the best thing I've done.

Here's a postcard I made.

And what the hell how about a portrait.

I guess I forgot to mention it but I'm doing these portraits for a blog.

But really it's mostly because it's fun and because Dan (the guy who's blog it is) asks for people that I in my small insulated world of mostly underground and obscure music would never think of doing. For example this morning I did Randy Newman (and three others!), I have never liked his music but I sure did love drawing his old lady glasses and white boy fro. So here's two more and a postcard of a badass bear riding a tall-bike I made for my friend Jennie.

Dolly Parton

Gram Parsons

Lot's more on the way.

I finally scanned some new stuff, so I'll have a couple more updates this week. It's just some more portraits. Here is Al Green as a young man. Nib and ink.

| A couple quick portraits. |
[15 Jul 2009|01:41pm] |

Here is one of the character, Radzinsky, from the television show Lost. I'm a big fan of the show (maybe too much) and I was watching an episode from the current season and I really like the look of the character so I decided to do a lil portrait of him.

This one is Tiny Vipers. I was watching a video of her and drew this from a still.
Both of these were done with nib and ink and from start to finish took no more than ten minutes.

Here's a portrait of Klaus Nomi. I forgot to write his name in the banner. Oops.
Nib and ink.

Here's another one. Sorry, I just don't like potatoes. If you're not from Texas and you aren't aware I'll explain. The traditional Texas breakfast taco is potato, egg, and cheese. The lady at Mi Casita acted like it was the most ridiculous request and that she was really put out by it. Sorry, I'm sure it'll be really hard for you to slop a spoon of rice on a tortilla instead of a spoon of potatoes.

This time I tried to make it look good.

That's my friend Hope. It's a true story. More strips like these are on their way. I hope somebody likes them because they're really enjoyable to make.

| Poorly Drawn Comics #2 |

I just really hate the news. This is another one about the Swine Flu craze of a few weeks ago. Kinda seems silly now doesn't it?

I really am sorry for the gap between updates. I just don't have a scanner and every time I go to the library some skeezy schlub is using the only scanner station there so he can surf the internet. It's quite annoying.
Anyway, here's a comic. I started doing these really poorly drawn really fast comics about ideas that would just hit me. So this is done with a Sharpee ultra-fine (if I have a nemesis this pen is it. But I always force myself to use it anyway) in one go without pencils or thumbnails or anything pertaining to any sort of structure. I just sat down and scratched it out. This is a true thing that really happened to me. It's about the swine flu craze that seems like ancient news by now.
More soon, I have a nice little back log.

| Adam West |
[20 Apr 2009|07:36pm] |

It's Adam freakin' West. That's really all there is to say. Nib and ink.

This is my friend Ashlie. I drew this directly from a photo. I think it's nib and ink but I might have used some pointed stick in there, too.

| Julie Doiron |
[03 Apr 2009|04:16pm] |

Just another one of my favourites. There is always a Julie song or album for an particular time in my life. I did this with nib and brush with ink and it was also my first foray into dry brushing.

| Phil Elverum |
[30 Mar 2009|04:17pm] |

Like most people I got into Phil when The Glow Pt. II was released. It became a bit of an obsession. Over the next year or so my girlfriend at the time and I listened to it constantly. I remember her listening to it over and over on her discman when we drove to Canada and back. In fact I still put it on when the time is right to this day. He's still making music that I love and this past year his record that he did with Julie Doiron called Lost Wisdom was one of my very favourite albums of 2008. Whenever I have the chance to see him live I don't pass it up. I did this portrait with nib and ink.

| Mark Kozelek |
[24 Mar 2009|06:32pm] |

The most consistent figure in my personal music taste in my entire life. I think I first discovered Red House Painters when I was 18. To this day I continue to buy every single thing he puts out. I've never been outright disappointed yet. If you've never listened to any of his music before I'd suggest checking out Ghosts of the Great Highway by Sun Kil Moon. Sun Kil Moon is his current band name/alter ego. I did this with nib, brush, and ink wash.

I didn't say which Monday now did I! Sorry, last week was completely insane with organizing shows at my house for HX and then going camping and then to Austin for SX. So now that the excuses are aside on with the crap.

First up is Bill Callahan better known as Smog. I'd been listening to him for years and even saw him play once. But this past summer after a special friend put a song on a mix I finally really got it. A River Ain't Too Much to Love is a completely perfect record. This was done with nib and ink. More to come.
